Will they float or sink?
                  Test the objects.

                  What can you decide about the density
                  of the different objects?

                  Explain why some objects float and
                  some objects sink.

                  Record what happened in the table
                  in the Workbook, then answer the
                  questions.

                       Step-By-Step

                    You can measure the density of a material
                    if you know the mass and the volume of the object.

                    1 Measure the mass in grams.
                                                                                             225 g

                                                      3
                    2 Measure the volume in cm using a ruler, or by
                       displacement.
                    volume = length × width × height

                                 = 5 cm × 2 cm × 1 cm
                                 = 10 cm 3                                              1 cm

                                                                                     5 cm    2 cm

                    volume = 10 ml

                                                                           3
                    One millilitre (ml) of water has a volume of 1 cm .
                    Therefore, 10 ml of water has a volume of 10 cm .
                                                                            3

                                                                                       70 ml          80 ml
