                       Let’s Learn

The particles in solids, liquids and gases are arranged differently. Solids

have very closely packed particles, but gases have particles that are more
                    spread out.

                                  solid liquid gas

                                   high low
                                  density density

Density is a measure of how closely packed the particles are inside a
                    material.

                    • Materials with a high density have more particles that are packed closer
together. Solids often have a high density.

                    • Materials with a low density have particles that are less closely packed.
Gases usually have a low density. There are bigger spaces between the
                      particles.

When a material changes state, the total mass of the particles stays the
                    same but the density changes.

How does the density of the water particles change when water boils?
