The Moon looks different on different nights.

                Sometimes it looks like this:




















                On other nights it looks like this:



















                And sometimes we cannot see any Moon.

                This is because the Moon is in different places when it goes

                around the Earth. This makes it look different.


                This activity will help you understand the Moon’s journey:

                1  Your teacher will use a light. The light is like the Sun. You will

                    use a ball on a stick to be the Moon. You will be the Earth.

                2  Hold the ‘Moon’ out with your arm straight. Hold it facing

                    the light. The light cannot get to the side of the ‘Moon’ that is

                    facing you. So that side of the Moon will be dark. We will not

                    see the Moon from Earth.
