The Moon is a satellite of the Earth. It moves around or orbits

the Earth. It takes 28 days to make one full orbit of the Earth.

The picture shows how the Earth moves around the Sun, and

the Moon moves around the Earth.

                                                                                 Moon

                                                                       Earth

                                                           Sun

The Moon is made from rock. It is much smaller than the Sun.
It is also much nearer to us than the Sun. So they look about

                the same size from Earth.

The Moon does not make its own light. We see it because light

from the Sun hits the Moon and comes back off it.

Luna is the Latin word for the Moon. A lunar month is the time
for the Moon to orbit the Earth.
