The word solar means anything about the Sun. The Sun is in

the centre of the Solar System. It is the only star in the Solar

System. All of the planets in the Solar System move around the

Sun. We say they orbit the Sun. The Sun is much bigger than

                the planets.

There are eight planets in the Solar System. One of these is

our planet, Earth. The other planets are:

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Some planets have satellites that orbit them. Satellites are

smaller objects. The Earth has a satellite. This is the Moon.

Some planets in the Solar System have lots of satellites. Some

                planets have no satellites.

There are other things that orbit the Sun too. Asteroids and
comets orbit the Sun. These are smaller objects made from

                rock and ice.
