There are different seasons at different times of the year.

Some countries have four seasons. They are spring, summer,

autumn, and winter. Some countries have only two seasons.

                Some countries have no seasons.

The Earth goes round on its own axis. axis

The axis is a line through the Earth.
It is a pretend line. It is not really there.

It goes from the North Pole to the

                South Pole.

Look at the axis line. It is not

                horizontal and not vertical.

This means the Earth is leaning.

                • In summer our part of Earth leans nearer to the Sun. This

makes it warmer. We also have longer daytimes in summer

because sunrise is earlier and sunset is later.

                • In winter our part of Earth leans away from the Sun. This

makes it colder. We also have shorter daytimes in winter

because sunrise is later and sunset is earlier.

                     Different parts of Earth spring

                     have different seasons. summer winter
                     When we lean nearer

                     to the Sun, we have

                     summer. When we lean

                     away from the Sun, we

                     have winter. autumn
