3 Electricity and Magnetism

                        Big Picture

               Electricity and magnetism are interesting

forces. We often think about them
               together. There are many similarities
               between electricity and magnetism;
there are differences, too. There are also

               different types of electricity.

We need both electric and magnetic

forces in our daily lives. Many of the
devices we use only work because of
how these two forces work together.

               Let’s find out more!

                     Objectives

At the end of this chapter, I will be able to:
➜ ➜ Explain what electric charge is and how charged particles interact.

➜ ➜ Explain how and why static electric charges happen, and how this charge
                 affects objects.

➜ ➜ Explain how electric charge affects conductors.

➜ ➜ Understand the relationship between electricity and magnetism, and explain
how to make an electromagnet, describing how it works.
