Let’s Learn
Have you ever touched something and felt a shock?
This is caused by static electricity. Static electricity is caused by friction.
Most objects start with a neutral charge.

When two objects rub together, the electrons from one object are
transferred to the surface of the other object.

This causes a build-up of electric charge on the surface of the objects. One
object becomes positively charged and the other becomes negatively
charged.
An electric charge builds up on the surface of objects made from insulating
materials. This is because electrons do not flow through insulators as easily
as they flow through conductors. The electric charge is static (not moving)!
