Weathering means breaking rocks into smaller pieces. Erosion means
moving rocks or pieces of rock to a different place. Weathering and erosion

often happen at the same time. They happen in lots of different ways.
Water can break up rocks. For example, this picture shows how the sea
broke up the rocks in a cliff. The big rocks in the sea were once part of the

cliff. The strong waves of the sea broke up the cliff.

Rain and rivers can also erode rocks. Rivers erode the rocks and soil along
their sides. Then the water carries the pieces away.

The wind also makes weathering and erosion happen. The wind can blow
small particles of rock away. It can also break other rocks by blowing these
                    particles into them.

In the desert, strong winds blow tiny rock particles into the air. These
particles change and shape the rocks in the landscape.
