Did You Know?
                       Did You Know?

The oldest fossils ever found are
                    cyanobacteria. These fossils are 3.5

billion years old! The picture shows
                    what they look like.

                       Let’s Understand
                       Let’s Understand

Scientists can find out how old a

fossil is by using index fossils.
Your teacher will give you a tray of

                    sand.
You will find a fossil in the tray.

There are also index fossils in the
tray. These are red, blue or green.

You need to look for your fossil
very carefully. Try not to move the
index fossils. Use the tools to help
                    you.

When you find your fossil, look at the index fossils near to it.

Use the table to help you find out how old your fossil is.
