6 Recovering Solutes

                          Objective

➜ ➜ Explain how a solute can be recovered by evaporation and condensation.

                       Let’s Start

What is the difference between evaporation and condensation?

                       Let’s Learn

Evaporation and condensation are changes of state that happen between

liquids and gases. They can be used to separate mixtures. Evaporation can
be used to separate a soluble solid (like salt) from a liquid (like water). The
salt is the solute and the water is the solvent. When the solution is heated,
the water evaporates to give water vapour. The salt stays behind
