Physical Science
Discharge – To let electric charge flow out of something.
Displacement – Displacing something. You can use displacement to find the
volume of an object.
Dissolve – When a solid goes into and becomes part of a liquid.
Distance – A measure of how far something goes.
Distance–time graph – A graph that shows the relationship between
distance, time and speed.
Domestic energy – Energy used in the home.
Drinking water – Water that is safe to drink.
Drought – A long time with little or no rain.
Efficient – Working well, with little or not waste.
Electric charge – The positive (+) or negative (−) charge that makes an object
feel a force in an electric field.
Electric current – The flow of electricity through an object.
Electric field – The area around an electrically charged particle or object.
Electromagnetic field – An area where electric and magnetic forces are working.
Electromagnetism – The science of magnetism and electric currents.
Electron – A small particle with a negative electrical charge.
Energy – Energy does work. Energy makes things move, or changes things.
Energy resource – A store of energy that we can find in nature.
Evaporation – When a liquid changes to a gas.
Exert – To use a force to make something happen.
Expand – To get bigger.
Expansion joint – A space in a material that allows it to expand.
Field lines – Lines that show the strength and direction of an electric or
magnetic field.
Field of influence – An area where a non-contact force works.
Filter – An object that lets some things go through but stops others.
Filtrate – The liquid that went through a filter.
Filtration – Putting a liquid through a filter to remove solid pieces.
Float – To stay on the surface of a liquid.
Flood – A lot of water on an area, often causing problems.
Force – A push or pull. A force transfers energy between objects.
Force meter – An object used to measure gravitational pull.
Formula – A way of doing something; a mathematical rule.
