Earth and Space Science
Some people think the Sun moves across the sky every day.
They think that this is how we get daytime and night. But this
is not true. The Earth moves, not the Sun.
night daytime Sun
We get daytime and night because the Earth rotates on its
axis. It takes 24 hours to turn all the way around.
Sometimes our part of Earth faces the Sun. Then the Sun’s light
can get to us. This is daytime.
At other times our part of Earth is not facing the Sun. Then it is
dark and we have night.
